Following its establishment, Slidell became the site of one of the globe’s largest creosote plants, one of the United States’ leading brick manufacturing plants, multiple sizable lumber mills, and a shipyard.

Slidell Airport (ICAO: KASD, FAA LID: ASD), a publicly owned airport located four nautical miles (7 km) northwest of the central business district, serves the city. While most U.S. airports share a common three-letter location identifier for both FAA and IATA, Slidell’s identifier is ASD according to the FAA, with no corresponding designation from IATA, which has assigned ASD to Andros Town Airport in the Bahamas.
